Paul Kininmonth
Living Shakespeare's Facilitator
Paul started in theatre because he didn’t want to. At 18, he reluctantly threw himself under the lights to shake-off his adolescent straight jacket. It worked! Paul's early roles giving him confidence to take-up teacher training and to study Drama at Deakin University, Melbourne.
Over 20 year of teaching Drama and Shakespeare in schools has shown Paul the benefits of the stage for all ages. Inspiring him in 2020 to launch Living Shakespeare. An interactive, online experience of Shakespeare's works, giving participants an opportunity to remove their own Shakespeare 'straight jackets' and a taste of how our world really is a stage.
Meeting the real William Shakespeare
It's easy to dish-up lukewarm Shakespeare, as we sampled back in school. But, the real Shakespeare is discovered in the living. William Shakespeare was ever practical. He wrote for his livelihood, his self-expression, and, most importantly, for our entertainment.
Delivering delicious Shakespeare
Paul uses food as an analogy for presenting and directing Shakespeare's works. Paul reckons, "experiencing his plays should be like enjoying a wholesome meal; they're created to be nourishing all levels".
He continues, "Shakespeare, when served with love and with precision, is food for our mind, heart, body and soul. At Living Shakespeare we’re endeavouring to present a relatable Shakespeare; an experience that’s fresh and fulfilling yet leaves one with plenty to chew over".
